The last time I wrote something this personal was probably when I was 10 years old and had one of those plastic diaries where I had to use a voice activated password to open it. It never worked, so I borrowed my dad’s screwdriver to manually open it so that I could use it. I could have just wrote in another diary to document this time in my life, but maybe there is a chance that someone out there may also find beauty in the mundane life. A life that I always wished to have. So here is a little bit about me.
My Family
I have always loved the Bay Area. My parents and I immigrated here from Uzbekistan in 1998; I was 3 years old at the time. The classic American Dream story. They came here with no money, no English skills, and two young children. To pay for their apartment, they cleaned homes and cooked meals for families in the same neighborhood where I bought my house 24 years later. At night, they learned how to speak English, took computer lessons, and started a whole new life for their family. My parents are the most inspiring people I know and I am forever grateful for their sacrifices.
While my parents worked hard to build this new life, my grandparents played a huge role in raising me. My grandma, a single mom and former high school math teacher, was an incredible force. She taught me that women and girls can do anything: sew, cook bread from scratch or fix a toilet. She was a jack of all trades!
While the women in my life had these home-making skills, I, on the other hand, was directed to focus on my career. But now that I am almost 30, with full time job and a house of my own, I think it’s time that I prioritize a slower life and learn to make my house a home for me and my future family to enjoy.
My Blog
This blog is not meant to be my transition to a “trad-wife” or homesteading. Instead, this is about me romanticizing a simpler lifestyle in the Bay Area. I hope you can stay for the journey 🙂
